The issue of riverboat gaming in unincorporated Platte County was approved by a relatively narrow margin in Tuesday’s election, which gives the go-ahead to the Boomtown project at I-435 and FF Highway. Platte County Voters approved the riverboat measure by a count of 6,883 in favor and 6,508 opposed, or 48% to 45%. Voter turnout was heavier than normal for a primary election with 40% of registered voters casting ballots, the Platte County Election Board reported. A turnout of around 30% is considered normal for a primary.

The Bridger Blasters, a local 12-and-under girls softball team, took first place in the 12 and under Three Rivers Fast Pitch League. They also captured first place in their league’s tournament.

The sound of engines whistling will once again be heard at the Platte County Fairgrounds as it is the site of the annual Platte County Steam and Gas Engine Show. This year’s show will be Friday – Sunday, Aug. 12, 13, and 14.

The weekend’s events will kick off with Friday’s 4:30 p.m. fish fry. Following at 6:30 p.m. The Northwest Missouri Garden Tractor Pull Association will debut at the show with a pull in front of the grandstand. The entertainment will continue as The Grand River Pickers are scheduled to take the stage at 7:30 p.m.
