Senior tax credit program expands

Mayor Steve Hoeger announced Miller’s resignation last week. Hoeger said Miller “has served the city with dedication and integrity for over four years.”

Miller serves as the first-ever full time fire chief for the Central Platte Fire District, which is headquartered in Platte City.

In a written resignation, Miller said serving as an alderman in ward two “has been an incredible honor, and the decision to step down is not one I have taken lightly.”

Miller, who took office in June of 2020, said he is proud of what the city has achieved the past few years. Highlights he listed included “improving infrastructure, fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses and creating job opportunities.”

He added that the city has “strengthened community engagement, creating forums for residents to voice their concerns and participate in decision-making.”

In addition, he said city officials “have worked diligently building interagency relationships that allow us to work together toward the common goal of public safety and improving the quality of life for our communities.”

Hoeger said Miller “became a pivotal figure during a period marked by significant challenges. His tenure included navigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction of a new City Hall, and the hiring of a new city administrator. Throughout these demanding times, Miller remained a steadfast and supportive leader, contributing significantly to the city’s resilience and progress.”

In a news release, Hoeger expressed his gratitude to Miller, stating, “People aren’t knocking down the door to be an alderman. The job doesn’t come with frequent thank yous but Troy’s efforts contributed to improving the quality of life and the landscape of Platte City.”

Hoeger said he wishes Miller good luck in his new endeavors, and “we look forward to still seeing you around town and continuing to serve the citizens of our area.”

Hoeger said he “will be considering the most appropriate replacement” for Miller in representing ward 2. Interested citizens living in ward 2 are encouraged to contact Hoeger at mayorhoeger@plattecity.org with a bio and statement of interest.

Hoeger said he hopes to identify the best candidate by the board’s next meeting July 30 to formalize the appointment.
