One man was killed and another was critically injured in a shooting incident late Monday night at the Orangewood Inn & Suites hotel located in Platte County near KCI Airport.

Exact address for the hotel is 11828 NW Plaza Circle Drive, Kansas City, not far from the new location of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, which is at 11724 NW Plaza Circle Drive on the east side of I-29 near the airport exit.

Sgt. Phil Dimartino with the Kansas City Police Department’s media unit says that at around 11:19 p.m. Monday officers were dispatched to the hotel on a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers were directed inside the hotel, where they located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS responded and declared the victim dead. That man was later identified as Jeremy Hills, 38.

Officers located a second adult male victim also suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, police say.

Police say a person of interest was taken into custody, pending further investigation. Early Tuesday, police said detectives and crime scene investigators continued to gather information to determine what led up to the incident, which is being investigated as a homicide.

No charges had been announced as of mid-morning on Tuesday.
