Dave and Mary Ann Brooks want the human bones that were found in their Platte City business building basement recently, but state officials are arguing the remains belong to the state and a dispute over possession of the bones appears to be underway. Mrs. Brooks last week said she wants the remains returned to her so she and her husband can have them undergo further testing. She is curious to find out how long the person had been dead, plus the age, race and other details.
Raising the base pay for teachers to $19,000 was one of the proposals presented to the North Platte School Board last week by the salary committee from the Community Teachers Association (CTA). The base salary has been frozen at $18,000 for over three years, according to Superintendent Dr. Francis Moran. CTA President Cathy Boyd said they would like to see a goal of $20,000 base salary by the 1995-96 school year.
The Park Hill Board of Education met in closed session last week to narrow the field of candidates for the next superintendent of the school district. Approximately 75 individuals from around the country applied for the position, according to Dr. Nolan Estes of Harold Webb, Associates, the consulting firm contracted by the board of education to assist in the selection of the superintendent.
