Bitterly cold weather prompted area schools to cancel classes on Tuesday. Air temperatures dipped well below zero and the wind chill factor was reported to be between 30 and 40 degrees below zero. Platte County R-3, West Platte R-2 and North Platte R-1 all decided to cancel school, not wanting to expose students to the frigid temperatures during transportation to and from the schools.
