The Platte City Board of Aldermen adopted new extensive zoning ordinances for the city on Tuesday. Important changes for Platte City include establishing a zone for adult entertainment, new permit fees for signs in the city, and a possible change in what can be rebuilt after a home or building is destroyed. The revision has been in the works since last November by the city’s planning and zoning commission. Head of the commission, Steve Parker, said they were told the old zoning ordinances, many originating from the 1950s, were out of date and not enforceable.
When Renner Elementary second grader Ben Wallis introduced a special guest at the school recently, he wasn’t simply welcoming a well-known children’s author. Bill Martin Jr. is also Ben’s great-great uncle. Martin, author of such children’s favorites as “Brown Bear, Brown Bear,” “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom,” “Happy Hippopotami” and “Barn Dance!,” talked with and read to kindergartners, first graders and second graders on Oct. 1.
Marine Pfc. Matthew J. Barges of Kansas City recently reported for duty with 1st Landing Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He joined the Marine Corps in December of 1992.
