Exchanging wedding vows Juy 24, 1993 at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo. were Melinda Lou Patton and Patrick Donald Short, both of Platte City. Parents of the couple are Sherry Patton, Platte City; John Patton, Phoenix, Az.; and Mr. and Mrs. George Short of Platte City. A reception at the Leavenworth Riverfront Community Center in Leavenworth, Kan. honored the newlyweds, who live in Carterville, Ill. A honeymoon was enjoyed in the Cayman Islands.

Chip Sherman continues to hold a hex over the West Platte Blue Jays. Sherman has been head coach of the Platte County football team for six seasons now. In that time, he has posted six straight wins over the Pirates’ arch rival West Platte. The past three years, the Blue Jays have failed to score a single point against the Pirates. That trend held true on Friday when the Pirates posted a 17-0 whitewashing of the Blue Jays in the rain, mud and lightning at Weston.
