THURSDAY’S SHOW AIRS AT 6 P.M. AT PLATTE COUNTY LANDMARK ON FACEBOOK
Tony Luetkemeyer of Parkville, a lawyer who represents Platte and Buchanan counties in the Missouri State Senate, will be the special guest on this week’s episode of Landmark Live.
The show will go live at The Landmark’s Facebook page (find it at Platte County Landmark) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. After airing, the video will remain available for on-demand viewing on the page at your leisure and will be posted to the Platte County Landmark’s YouTube channel.
Taxes, potential limits on property valuation increases and other political topics–including an update on Missouri’s interest in legalizing sports wagering–will be discussed, as well as any off-the-cuff topics that may come up.
Landmark Live is The Landmark Newspaper’s podcast, now in its sixth year of offering live telecasts.
Luetkemeyer will be interviewed by Landmark publisher Ivan Foley and Landmark columnist Guy Speckman.
Sen. Luetkemeyer was born and raised in Missouri. A fifth-generation Missourian, he grew up in a small farming community in Southeast Missouri.
After graduating from high school, Luetkemeyer attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. During his junior year, he was elected Mizzou’s student body president. In that role, he advocated for students at MU to ensure their voices were heard by university administrators. It was also while campaigning for office that Luetkemeyer met his wife, Lucinda.
During the summer after college, Luetkemeyer worked as a White House intern in the Domestic Policy Council under President George W. Bush. After that summer, Luetkemeyer enrolled at the University of Missouri School of Law. While in law school, he was appointed by Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt to serve on the University of Missouri Board of Curators, the governing board for the UM System. In that role, Luetkemeyer says he fought to keep tuition and fees low for Missouri students and families and served as a voting member on the committee to hire a new university president.
After graduating from law school, Luetkemeyer clerked for a judge on the Missouri Supreme Court.
He currently practices law in Kansas City.
Luetkemeyer is a member of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, National Rifle Association, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and Federalist Society.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, watching sports (particularly the Mizzou Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs), and spending time outdoors with his wife and their dog.
