More than 147 high school students have a new appreciation of their freedoms after attending the 31st annual Missouri Freedom Forum June 17-19 at the Missouri Military Academy (MMA) campus in Mexico. During the three-day forum, students from across the state heard from noted lecturers and local business leaders about free enterprise in the “real” world and political systems which have a profound effect on business.

Piles of rock have been placed on either end of the Humphrey’s Access bridge south of Platte City to close it. Area landowners want it repaired and reopened but county and state engineers warn it would still be risky to cross it. Repairs are estimated at $12,000 to $15,000 but a new bridge would cost an estimated $700,000.
