Gregg McPherson, principal at East Platte Elementary School, was presented a citation and ribbon by Peggy Richey, president of the East Platte PTA, during an assembly at the school last week. It was all part of “Principal’s Day” and McPherson was declared “World’s Best Principal.”


Two candidates will seek the ward two unexpired term in the April 7 election for alderman in Platte City. They are Randy Cannon and Frank Offutt. The position became vacant when David Parrett resigned from the board to start a business.

A one-vehicle crash Saturday night in Platte County claimed the life of a 19-year-old Smithville woman. Sharma L. Myers and two 19-year-old men were ejected from the car she was driving south of Edgerton.


A successful season came to an end for the Platte County Pirates Thursday night when they lost to Marshall 81-52 in the semifinal round of the Class 3A District 15 basketball tournament at Excelsior Springs.


Lee Webb, son of Ed and Kerry Webb of Platte City, was named Spellathon champion at Platte City Elementary School. People pledged money for each word spelled correctly on a test and Lee spelled the most. A member of Pat Reineke’s second grade class, Lee earned $150 for the PTA and was presented a $100 gift certificate.
