A Platte City resident has filed legal action alleging the City of Platte City violated the Sunshine Law in a June 7 special meeting dealing with its current proposal to annex 6,500 acres. The same legal action asks the court to issue an injunction that would remove the involuntary annexation issue from any election ballot until the city properly complies with the law. Resident Harold Coons claims the board of aldermen violated the Sunshine Law in a variety of ways in that special meeting on June 7. Coons is represented by the law firms of Murphy, Taylor, Siemens & Elliott, PC of St. Joseph and McGinness and Shaw, LLC of Platte City. Coons referred comment to his attorney, Bob Shaw.
