Carol Tharp is already at work in her “new” position as Platte County’s first full time emergency preparedness director. she has already been serving in the position on a part-time basis for 13 years in addition to her duties with the sheriff’s department.


Carrie Knight of Platte City has been chosen as a squad member on the “Oyata Productions” competitive girls fast-pitch softball team. The team recently held an invitation-only tryout in Independence. The manager of the team is David Short. Head coach is Tim Jarvis, assistant coach is David Record.

There are more students going to West Platte R-2 School District this year, Dr. Mark Harpst, superintendent, said this week. The first day enrollment this year is 780, which is 28 more than this time last year.


Hoover Christian Church has announced its new associate minister in charge of youth, Ron Hutchins. He comes from the First Christian Church in Grandview, Mo. where he was a full time youth minister for three years.


The Rev. Tom Blakely has been welcomed to Platte City by the Rev. Harold Van Cleave. Blakely conducted his first service Sunday as the new minister of First Christian Church of Platte City. Van Cleave has been serving as interim minister.
