Dr. Francis Moran, superintendent of the North Platte R-1 School District, reported a first day estimated enrollment of 775 for the district at a meeting of the R-1 school board last week. This is an increase of about 30 from this time last year.


Amanda Eggen recently received a bronze medal in the Show-Me Bowl State Games in the 400 meter in the track competition. She qualified at Blue Springs to participate in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter races. Amanda is a member of the Kansas City Blazers track team and has also participated in AAU track this summer, qualifying in several meets. She is the daughter of Keith and Sandy Eggen.

Otis Van Cecil has received a “Certificate as a Silver Poet” for having his poem “Winter Preparation” included in a poetry collection published by World of Poetry. Cecil has had a number of poems published since he was officially designated Platte County’s Poet Laureate by the Platte County Court.


The new Platte County Administration Building, built to relieve the overcrowding at the courthouse, is now itself crowded for space. Bids will be received Sept. 12 by the Platte County Commission for remodeling the courthouse and the county commission building.
