Platte County’s real estate and personal property tax valuations have again set a record, reflecting the growth of the county. Platte County Assessor Betty Gregoire certified real estate at $427,859,760 and personal and business personal at $143,940,659 for a total of more than $571,000,000. It’s an increase of more than $38 million from the previous year.


The top scholars in the Class of 1991 at Platte County R-3 High School in Platte City are Brenda LeVan, valedictorian, and Jennifer Donnelli, salutatorian. Brenda is the daughter of Jan and Donald LeVan, Platte City. She will go to the University of Missouri at Columbia to major in business. Jennifer is the daughter of Dorothy Donnelli and the late Carl Donnelli, Platte City. She will attend William Jewell College and plans to later study law.

The Platte City Park Board has recommended to the Platte City Board of Aldermen that the city’s park and recreational programs be expanded and a full time park director be hired. In a report to the aldermen and mayor last week, the park board also stated that if existing programs are to be expanded and new programs and services offered to the public, the issue of a permanent facility must also be addressed.


Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville has reported the month of April 1991 has exceeded all previous months in the hospital’s 53 year history in terms of total revenue generated from operations.
