The Platte City Chamber of Commerce Thursday heard Mayor Steve Wegner deliver a “State of the City” address.


The KCI Conference of Schools, hosted by Smithville R-2 School District and Parents as Teachers, will present “The Power of Positive Parenting” with Dr. William Mitchell, educator, national speaker and author, on Friday, March 1, 7 p.m. at the Smithville High School.

There were two upsets in the first round at the Class 3A District tournament being held at Excelsior Springs, and one of them was positive for Platte County. The Pirates upset third seeded Richmond 48-46 and now advance to a semifinal round game on Thursday against Marshall. C.J. Fulk led in scoring with 17 points for the Pirates. Platte County is now 13-12 overall.


Eric and Mary Beth Schwab of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Platte City, have announced the birth of their son Evan Dale, on Jan. 10, 1991. Evan weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Dale and Barbara Schwab of Platte City. Maternal grandparents are John and Marilyn Summers, and Doug and Wanda Donaghue of Lee’s Summit and Roger Baskett of Platte City.
