A man carrying a black portfolio in his hands provided a bank teller with a note demanding money in a robbery of the Platte Valley Bank at Dearborn on Monday morning.

Authorities say the incident took place around 8:50 a.m. The man did not display a weapon, police told The Landmark, and there were no injuries.

Investigators say the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Platte County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Shanks said there is no vehicle or direction of travel information available.

A 10-year-old daughter of one of the bank employees was among those inside the building when the incident took place. The girl told the media she was drawing in a notebook at the time of the incident and did not see the man come in and did not look up at the man while he was in the bank, which is located at 102 Main Street, across from Dearborn City Hall.

The girl was picked up at the scene by her grandmother. The investigation and interviews of employees continued inside the building for quite some time during the morning hours Monday.

A clear surveillance picture of the suspect inside the bank was captured (see accompanying photo). Authorities described the man as about 5’10”, about 160 pounds, 40-50 years of age with tattoos on his arms and on the left side of his neck. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black jeans.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery or the suspect should call the Platte County Sheriff’s Department at 816-858-3521.

The FBI is now the lead agency on the investigation, which is typical in bank robberies.
