A Parkville woman trying to cross the interstate on foot was struck and killed last Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 29 just north of the 64th Street exit in Platte County.

Prior to being struck, the victim’s vehicle had slid into a concrete barrier during a snowstorm. The incident occurred about 1 p.m.

The Jackson County medical examiner pronounced Kimberly L. Norton, 40, dead at the scene. She had exited her vehicle and was trying to cross the southbond lanes. Officials said Norton died instantly.

Norton’s traffic accident had occurred as she was driving in the center lane. She lost control and hit the barrier.

Norton was then struck by an oncoming Dodge Durango heading southbound. The Durango was driven by Tiffany N. Blair, 32, of Kansas City, Ks.

The cause was attributed to slick roads from the falling snow. A traffic pileup occurred in the southbound lanes that took over an hour to clear. No other injuries were reported.

Kansas City police, Platte Woods police and Platte County deputies assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol at the scene.
