Weston board okays several ordinances

The Board of Aldermen in Weston met Monday night at Weston City Hall for their regular meeting.

During the meeting several ordinances were approved. The bills were signed by Weston Mayor Howard Hellebuyck for placement in the city’s ordinance book.

Aldermen approved an ordinance to establish a procedure to disclose potential conflicts of interest and substantial interests for certain state officials.

Aldermen approved an ordinance approving the plat of Weston Estates as a subdivision to Weston.

A blood alcohol content ordinance was also signed. The ordinance, according to Hellebuyck was to allow Weston to be concurrent with the state BAC of .08.

An economic development agreement was also signed by Mayor Hellebuyck. The ordinance allowed the City of Weston to enter into a contract with the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

During the meeting J.P. Coldren stated the Lions club was happy with the Weston Park Department’s project of completing a handicap ramp to the City Park.

Coldren, Lions Club President Archie Willis and Lion Buck Rowland donated $1,000 in memory of Lion Curly Hayworth to the Park Department.

Aldermen passed business licenses for Ryan’s Roofing, Pellectric, and Interiors Unique. An address change was approved from County Boutique.

A liquor license was approved by aldermen for Main Street Bar.

Mayor Hellebuyck informed the board the amount to replace contents of City Hall and the police station were increased to $30,000 each. This increased the yearly premium by $180.

The 2002 tax rate summary papers had been received from the county Aug. 12. City Treasurer, Marcuss Whitworth, will complete the summary and a tax rate hearing is 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

Larry Clemens, superintendent of Public Works, gave a sidewalk update during the meeting.

Clemens reported there had been 13 sidewalks repaired, and 19 sidewalks are in various stages of repair. Approximately 75 percent of the sidewalks have been repaired.
