Two inmates who escaped from the Platte County Jail on Monday night were back in the same jail Tuesday morning. Platte County Sheriff Tom Thomas gave this account of the escape and recapture: Gerald Bailey, inmate, was preparing a meal at 8:15 Monday night when he indicated to the female jailer that the food was spoiled. When she inspected the food, he overpowered her and took her keys, which included keys to the control room with access to buttons that open cells. Bailey opened the door for Bradley Bradshaw, an inmate facing a murder charge; and they opened two more locked doors before escaping in the jailer’s car, which was later found abandoned in Clay County. The two men got into another car with a third man. They fled to Lafayette County, where they were apprehended and arrested by Lafayette County and Missouri State Highway Patrol officers, alerted by Platte County. The arrest occurred at 3:37 a.m. and less than five hours later they were back in the same jail from which they escaped.
Effective Nov. 1, the toll charges on the Platte Purchase Bridge across the Missouri River will be raised.
Jason Jenks celebrated his second birthday on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams of Dearborn. The cake was made and decorated by his grandmother.
