More than $250,000 in CARES money was awarded to small businesses in Platte County during another round of small business grants approved by county commissioners.
The latest grant approvals came at a meeting held Monday, Sept. 28.
Platte County received $12.2 million in federal CARES money through the state treasurer’s office several months ago. The state treasurer had asked the county to give $6 million to the City of Kansas City, based on the fact that half of Platte County’s population is comprised of residents who live within the city limits of Kansas City.
The county commission to this point has declined to distribute any of the funds to the City of Kansas City or to any other public agency. Any and all funds distributed to this point by the county has been to private businesses who applied for relief due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
