Busy, busy, busy. Plus I’m in kind of a bad mood because they already have Christmas stuff out at Lowes. Maybe they should just put it out after the Fourth of July? So you get some musings…
- I know that these are some of the greatest athletes in the world, but I’m not quite sure Matt Moore is an equal replacement to Patrick Mahomes. He’s like 1/4 of a Mahomes. Maybe we can petition the NFL to allow us to have four quarterbacks?
- My son, Brett, is a junior in high school now. When was that allowed to happen? He’s driving, and going to parties, and getting a letter jacket? This is kind of depressing, quite frankly.
- We are in prime “parent helping” time at the high school. Our school basically runs on volunteers. Help with a bake sale. Help with the ticket booth. And the latest– help with the concession stand. Our concession stand is sub-contracted to a company where the manager runs a tight ship. We set the soda pop up wrong when we left the other day and got an absolute earful. It’s serious stuff, people. Gotta have the old pop in the right spot otherwise PEOPLE DIE. Or something. Some people never leave high school, I guess. Big fish in a little pond. I’m just happy to still be swimming anywhere.
- One of my side hustles the last couple of years has been to be the PA announcer for Park University and North Kansas City High School athletics. My first 16 months have included a national championship by Park women’s volleyball, a state championship by the NKC girls basketball team. Back-to-back conference titles by their football team, and now a conference title by NKC girls volleyball. I’m pretty spoiled, to be sure. I’d give it all to see the boy and his Hornet baseball team win a conference title, though.
- Halloween is this week, and another high school thing we had to do for the booster club was buy candy for a trunk-or-treat. I went to Costco and got what can only be categorized as a trash bag full of candy for like $20. So there’s going to be some cavities for anyone who visits our car.
- My dad remains the king of Halloween. He used to take us on a tour of the nice neighborhoods of the Northland every year with extra pillowcases to reload. He’d chart out where the best candy was every year like Eisenhower planning a major offensive. He’d have us go around the block a couple times if there were houses that gave out “big” candy bars. He’d make us go up to houses as late as 9:30 whether their porch lights were on or not. He is a Halloween ninja and an Oct. 31st Hall of Famer.
- I saw that the president stopped by the World Series the other night. When they announced him on the video board, it was nice to see the crowd start a UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSA chant. At least, it sounded like a U.
Happy Halloween, everyone. Or, as Home Depot calls it, Christmas.
