A self-employed hairdresser in Platte City now has a pension after winning $25,000 tax paid in Saturday night’s SHOW ME 5 Drawing from the Missouri Lottery. Kathy Brubeck, 52, said along with saving the money for retirement, she and her husband, Rodney, also plan to play with a little of the winnings and give some to their six grown children. Brubeck is the owner of Guys and Gals hair salon.


Christopher J. Sweeten, 17, of Belton, Mo., has been sentenced for his part in the Dec. 15, 1995 armed robbery of the Circle K in Parkville. Sweeten and a 19 year-old co-defendant, entered the convenient store with a sawed-off shotgun and wearing bandannas over their faces. While the co-defendant held the shotgun to the store clerk’s head, Sweeten took liquor, lottery tickets and money. Sweeten was 16 at the time of the offense and considered a juvenile under Missouri law. Upon entering his plea of guilty, Sweeten was sentenced to a total of 13 years.

The Dearborn Area Fire Protection District will be hosting a dedication of its new fire station on Saturday, Aug. 10. In recent years, the department has been able to use public funds to purchase a new station and fire fighting equipment. The new station is located at the corner of Z Hwy. and Commercial St. in Dearborn.
