Things I think, I think.
·Look for young athletes to run into future trouble with the tax man. College athletics has been overrun with money through Name, Image and Likeness deals that pay athletes across all types of sports. Lots of money in many cases, but more reasonable amounts in others. The problem is that most of these transactions are 1099 type employment. If somebody paid you $50,000 or more as a 19-year-old, would you have been wise enough to hold back some of the money for taxes? No. Neither are thousands of athletes, and it will eventually be front page problem/news for the “industry.”
·I am oddly interested in the outcome of the Republican primary for the Congressional 6th District seat that Sam Graves is leaving. Chris Stigall and Nathan Willett are the front runners. If you look at any of the betting (investment) markets for such things, Stigall has anywhere from a 40-60 percent chance of winning the primary, but I think Willett could close that gap. I think it should be an interesting summer. Two things appear to be push points. (1) Money. If Willett can raise money, he can make it a race, but the Herzog and establishment money has moved to Stigall. I think he may surprise by the dollars raised in upcoming filings; he has some old money family and friends that might bring more to the table than expected. (2) Trump. If DJT endorses, it would likely be Stigall and that might push the needle, but DJT endorsements can be a double-edged sword in many areas.
·“Old money” always sounds cool. How “old” does money have to be to be considered in this category? I’m saying at least one generation removed old is the standard. You do you.
·One of my grandfathers was an egg inspector and drove a maintainer for the county and the other made bricks, which made them pretty good dudes, but no “old money” was passed.
·Yes, egg inspector was a job at one time and there are many days that I’d love to be an egg inspector. I think you waited until after they were out of the chickens.
·The City of Kansas City has thrown their support behind another grocery store in the name of eliminating food deserts. Not to be confused with food desserts. Anyway, the new store in the Linwood Shopping Center is open and operating. Mayor Quinton Lucas was at the grand opening of United Market and gave the most “rousing” speech I’ve ever heard for a grocery store, it was near revival type address. He was quoted by KMBC as saying, “We probably spent about $2 billion in city and government money downtown. And so, $30 million on Prospect to help the community, I ain’t mad about it.”
Welp, as they say, a million dollars here or there eventually adds up, I guess.
·In the greatest irony of all time, KSHB reports that you are required to show an ID to enter the United Market KC. Must be a state-issued valid ID. Draw your own conclusions.
