EDITOR:

On Friday, May 22, 2026, I was alerted that an “editorial piece” was published in The Landmark by my neighbor, Ms. Julie Parnell. This is a smear campaign disguised as a notice to the voters of Platte County. Because Ms. Parnell’s assertions are patently false and defamatory I would be remiss not to respond. Ms. Parnell and I have disagreed for many years about a boundary line between us, but she has now taken her fight public and, in so doing, leveled knowingly false statements against me in an attempt to tank my political campaign.

Ms. Parnell’s attempt to use The Landmark for her personal vendetta against me as her neighbor is distressing. Here are the facts which are all subject to independent verification in the County Recorder of Deeds of Platte County.

My property line has been the same defined property line since Jan. 22, 2003 (since before Ms. Parnell bought her property). Records confirm that The National Golf Club of Kansas City recorded my property line when it filed The National – Eleventh Plat, before I even purchased the property. The recorded plat defining said property line can be found in the Platte County Records by searching for Document 0001922, in book 19 and page 342.

The National – Eleventh Plat recorded document was in place approximately 15 years before Ms. Julie Parnell bought the property. In addition, I was not employed by The National Golf Club of Kansas City until March 17, 2003, making it impossible for me to have any involvement in this matter.

Before I improved my property in 2021, I hired the highly respected surveyor and engineering firm R.L. Buford of Parkville and its owner Rob Young to survey the property line. The property line was surveyed and marked. I then hired a professional landscape company to improve my property. Ms. Parnell may not like it, but I have a right to improve my property as I see fit and I did so within the legally established boundaries. These are well established property rights in the State of Missouri.

Such false accusations cannot be made without consequences. Ms. Parnell should retract these statements immediately. It is a shame I now have to speak out and take action to disprove a negative accusation, but I suppose this is what happens when your next-door neighbor doesn’t get what she wants and mounts a smear campaign.
