A Trimble man was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to first degree statutory sodomy in Platte County.

Michael G. Johnson, 69, received the sentence on April 24 after admitting he abused a child when she was between five and six years old.

Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said, “This defendant took advantage of a young child’s trust and subjected her to awful sexual acts. This long prison sentence is the just outcome for his truly heinous conduct.”

Johnson admitted that, between 2012 and 2014, he would have the young victim sit in his lap and touch her sexually.

Because Johnson’s victim was under age 12 when she was abused, Johnson was required to serve at least 10 years in prison.

Zahnd said, “I hope this decades-long sentence sends a clear message that child sexual abuse will not be tolerated in Platte County. We will do all we can to protect children from abuse, and anyone who hurts a child should know they will face dire consequences here.”

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kalwei prosecuted it.
