Mr. and Mrs. Keith Porter have announced the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Pam, to Kenneth E. Mann, son of Mrs. Donna Mann, formerly of Weston. The wedding will be May 23. Pam graduated from Platte County R-3 High School in 1979 and is currently employed by Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. Ken attends Penn Valley Community College and does on the job training at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City.


Amy Lindsey won the Miss Photogenic title at the Sunflower Pageant held at Topeka, Kan. on April 11. Amy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lindsey of Platte City. Mrs. Lindsey is the former Lindell Keller. Amy is a kindergartner at Platte County R-3. She will compete in the finals to be held in Las Vegas in July. Amy’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Pine, Platte City, and Mr. and Mrs. Baker Lindsey, Smithville.

Fifth and sixth graders from the Barry Middle School got the opportunity for a practical learning experience in how the adult world operates last week when they spent the whole day in Exchange City. They ran the entire city and learned by doing. Exchange City was held at the Learning Exchange in downtown Kansas City, near Crown Center. It is free this year, being sponsored by Hallmark Cards with a grant, but next year is expected to cost about $150 per school.
