After about three weeks of paperwork and planning and waiting a long time for a fire permit, the Central Platte Fire Department organized a firefighting practice over the weekend. It began around 8 a.m. Sunday and lasted until about 3 p.m. that afternoon. The Central Platte Fire Department along with fire departments from Camden Point, Weston and Dearborn, planned a search and rescue at two abandoned houses on First Street in Tracy. The houses had been included in the Tracy flood buyout. About 20-30 firefighters took part. For the rescue exercise, the fire department plants a dummy inside the house before the fire, and then other firefighters have to “search and rescue” the dummy in the fire. The dummy–after being pulled out wet–can weigh up to 100 pounds.
