A Platte County judge on Tuesday issued a renewal of a protection order for a Parkville businessman against a Parkville newspaper publisher. Judge James Van Amburg ruled that Tom Hutsler, age 55, deserves another year of protection against Mark Vasto, 38, publisher of a small weekly paper distributed in Parkville. The initial order of protection was given a year ago by Judge Gary Witt. Vasto appealed that decision but lost, and now says he is petitioning the Missouri Supreme Court in hopes they will review the case. Likely the most damaging testimony against Vasto on Tueday was Hutsler describing that in April, while the protection order was in place, Vasto had “brushed up against” him in a Downtown Parkville lounge. Hutsler said there was plenty of room in the lounge where Vasto could have avoided physical contact.
Verizon’s cell tower at the little league ball field in Platte City is now plainly visible. The 104-ft. high cell tower will double as the left field foul pole at the ball park at Fourth Street and Hwy. 92. Verizon says the new tower will improve what has been spotty coverage inside of buildings in the Downtown Platte City area. Verizon will make a payment of at least $21,600 per year to the city over the initial five years of a lease agreement.
Siobhann Williams, 43, incumbent Democrat, and challenger Kevin Robinson, 50, will square off in the Nov. 2 election for the office of Platte County auditor.
