Surrey rides were one part of the celebration at the New Market Christian Church Family Fun Day held Saturday at the church located along Hwy. 371. The surrey is pulled by Belgian Draft Horses named Babe and Dolly, owned by Ed and Gin Harlan from Paradise Valley Carriage Service in Smithville. Riding were Jason Swanstone, Dearborn; Mike Wagers, New Market; Addie Lou Buckler, Dearborn; Michael LuPercio, Dearborn; and driver Ed Harlan from Smithville. Audrey Wellesly from the Parkville area enjoyed sitting and holding on to “Babe.” The celebration was held to observe the church’s 135th anniversary.
A former Kansas City resident has been arraigned in Platte County Circuit Court on two counts of statutory sodomy and three counts of child molestation. Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Todd Graves said Edward D. Readman, 32, Dennison, Iowa, was recently indicted by a Platte County grand jury. Readman was arraigned before Associate Circuit Judge Lee Hull on Tuesday. The molestation allegedly occurred between Jan. 1, 1995 and May 19, 1995 in the victim’s home in Platte County.
Sixteen cases were presented to the grand jury and 16 indictments were returned, Platte County Prosecuting Todd Graves has announced. Using the grand jury will cut the time in half these people will stay in jail prior to their trials, and in the process reduce costs.
