Platte City police expect to submit a case file to juvenile authorities this week regarding a report they received from a local 17-year-old girl claiming to have been raped and sodomized over a span of four years by her step-brother.
A 24-year-old man died about 12 hours after crashing his pickup into a utility pole at Fourth Street and Hillcrest in Platte City. A 1984 Chevy pickup driven by Mickey Martin of Platte City left the roadway in the 1600 block of Fourth Street and hit the electric pole about 2:37 a.m. on June 16. Martin died at 2:25 p.m. that afternoon at North Kansas City Hospital, according to Platte City Police Chief Carl Mitchell. Mitchell did not yet have an estimate as to the speed at which Martin’s vehicle may have been traveling.
MoDOT officials are saying the new bridge over I-29 at HH Hwy. in Platte City should be ready for traffic on Friday. A ribbon cutting featuring MoDOT and Platte City officials is set for 10 a.m. Friday, with the bridge expected to open to traffic later that same day.
Rumors last week of break-ins and burglaries of laptop computers in the Lakes at Oakmont and Hills of Oakmont neighborhoods just south of Platte City appear to be unfounded, according to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. Numerous reports of property damage have plagued the two subdivisions recently, however.
