FINAL CERTIFIED NUMBERS ARE IN
Election results from Tuesday, April 8, now officially certified in both Platte and Clay counties, confirm what the unofficial results showed on election night: the Northland Regional Ambulance District bond issue question failed.
The margin tightened a bit, as the certification process in Platte resulted in two more votes in favor of the question than unofficial results had shown. Clay County’s certification did not change any final tallies.
The bond issue question needed 57.15% approval for passage. The final numbers show it received 56.49%, NRAD officials confirmed this week.
The numbers show it needed 25 more yes votes for passage.
Final tallies in Platte County show 1201 in favor to 800 opposed. Clay County final numbers were 935 in favor to 808 opposed, with 34 “undervotes,” meaning voters did not make a selection on the question.
Clay County’s results were not certified until last Friday, NRAD officials said. Platte County’s numbers were certified on April 11.
“We’ll bring the discussion up to the board at a meeting tonight,” Jason James, executive director for NRAD, told The Landmark on Monday, about where the district “goes from here” in regard to matters that would have been impacted by a positive result of the vote.
“We’ll see where they want to go from here. We look forward to it,” James said.
The proposal would have added a second ambulance station in Smithville to go along with the existing one already in that city. There also would have been renovations to the current location in Platte City, a new headquarters and education center, all to “ensure top-tier emergency training and response,” the district said.
The bond issue proposal was put forward with the aim of improving response times by NRAD crews, James said.
