‘Try to be as open and honest as possible.’ With those words, Irv Jensen of Smart Solutions Group kicked off the first meeting of the Platte City Economic Development Task Force Thursday night. The group has been tasked with providing a plan to the city on economic development, potentially covering suggestions on topics such as how the city could best market the area east of I-29 and what it can do to improve its downtown.
The Commerce Bank located along Hwy. 45 near the Price Chopper in Parkville was robbed by two armed gunmen last Wednesday morning. One of the robbers was caught in Kansas City, Kan. following a high speed chase. The second suspect had a short-lived period of freedom before being taken into custody by authorities.
Judge Gary Witt of Platte County has been named to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District. There had been a string of four vacancies on the court of appeals and Witt had been nominated for an opening on three occasions. On Friday he was chosen for the most recent opening. Witt’s departure creates an opening in Platte County. He has been an associate circuit judge in Platte County since 1998. He is 45 years old and holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications from William Jewell College in Liberty and earned his law degree from the University of Missouri.
