The Platte County R-3 Spirit Squad placed second Aug. 23 at the Missouri State Cheerleading regional competition held at Winnetonka High School. The squad will next advance to state competition, which will be held on Nov. 4-5 in Columbia. Cathy Dickerson, spirit squad coach, and Rod O’Connor, band director, have announced that the squad will perform a field show during halftime of the Sept. 16 home football game vs. Lathrop.
John Ashcroft, former Missouri governor and now a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, stopped in Platte City last week on a campaign swing through the northwest part of the state.
