AROUND 4400 SQ. FT. IN A BRICK BUILDING
The construction of a new McDonald’s is currently underway at a busy intersection in the Northland.
Construction workers have been busy laying the foundation on a 4,436-square-foot restaurant with drive-through at the southeast corner of N. Green Hills Road and NW Barry Road.
Trees on the 1.575-acre lot were cut and removed a couple of years ago in order to make room for future development. The American fast-food giant plans to have 50 parking spaces and two drive-thru ordering canopies with digital menu boards. Inside, customers will be able to place their orders at kiosks or the front counter.
According to a Kansas City Plan Commission staff report, city planning and development workers have strongly encouraged the developer, McDonald’s, to solely use high-quality building materials to erect and custom design the fast-food restaurant, noting it will likely set the scene for the proposed adjacent development.
To comply with these specific criteria, the developer has agreed to construct the entire building of brick.
This type of construction material was also deemed necessary since the site is located on such a heavily- traveled intersection.
The City of Kansas City recently made road improvements and pedestrian safety changes along Green Hills Road in anticipation of this area becoming a high-traffic volume area.
A linear trail for non-motorized users was reconstructed along the east side of Green Hills Road between NW 72nd Street and 78th Street. That multi-purpose trail will eventually expand north to the McDonald’s property.
Pedestrian crosswalks will be added to the main drive-in and the drive-out driveway, which will be located along Green Hills Road.
Reprise Design, based out of Burnsville, Minnesota, is providing the architectural services for this project and Olsson Inc. is the landscape architect and engineering firm. Some landscaping and a variety of greenery will help buffer noise coming from the high-traffic area.
The new McDonald’s restaurant lies just 2.5 miles to the east and 2.2 miles to the west of another McDonald’s location.
