The 115th annual Platte County Fair opened Wednesday night with a large crowd attending. Miss Anita Vanetti was crowned queen of the 115th Platte County Fair during the opening ceremony. She was also chosen for Miss Congeniality by a vote of the queen contestants at the queen’s pageant Monday night. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vanetti of Kansas City and was sponsored by the Platte Woods Pizza Shoppe.


Hilda Ann Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Higgins, Platte City, and David Handly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Handly, Warrensburg, Mo., were united in marriage Saturday, July 15 at the First Baptist Church in Platte City. Rev. Lester M. Weeks officiated at the wedding. Following a honeymoon the couple will be at home in Warrensburg.

Rev. and Mrs. Eugene McFarland, of Barry Road, announce the engagement of their daughter, Gem McFarland, to Mike Palmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Palmer of Platte City. The future bride, 1975 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School, is a student at Northwest Missouri State University, majoring in speech pathology. Her fiancé also was graduated from Platte County R-3 in 1975 and is majoring in business management at Northwest Missouri State. The couple plans a Dec. 28 wedding at the Barry Christian Church.
