It’s a no bones day, people, and that means that I can’t bother myself with coherent thought and I’m just supposed to go with the flow. So here’s a scattered offering of my thoughts this week.
P.S. If you don’t know what a bones or no bones day is then you must not have TikTok.
For seven years up until a year ago, I worked for the Big C in Kansas City. That’s that healthcare software company based in North Kansas City. The company has been in decline the last few years and that, ultimately, led to me leaving. Still love the idea of the company, but the execution was awful. This was due, in part, to some of the online communities of employees that worked there. One of those communities was reddit.com/r/Cerner. Reddit communities can be thoughtful and engaging, but most, like the rest of the internet, just turn into bitch-fests. r/Cerner was no exception.
Last week, a new CEO joined the company and one of the first things he did was close down r/Cerner. It was kind of a boss move. He also led with communication to the employees saying he’d rather have grievances told to him personally or at least through channels rather than random posts on the internet. Good for him. He still has a lot of garbage to clean up over there, but I’m rooting for him. And good riddance to one of the worst places on the internet.
I got some positive feedback on my Karen article last week. One respondent told me that I should run for Congress. I’m afraid my Twitter history would probably prohibit a serious run for Congress, but it does look like I may have a fair shot at Parkville Mayor?
Last week also marked a victory for me over our illustrious leader Ivan Foley on Landmark Live in a game of “Who knows the most crap about Science Fiction movies.” This one wasn’t very fair, however, because there isn’t anybody that knows more crap about these things than me. I will give Ivan credit for answering Battlestar Galactica for one of the clips. He nailed it, and that was a tough one, too. I kind of envy having enough room in your brain to hold information like dates and names, when instead I have nothing but Spiderman’s place of birth (New York) and what year Stardate Star Trek Voyager came back to earth in (Year 2394).
All that being said, I’m feeling that I need something new now that Phase 3 of the MCU Marvel movies are over and many of my comic book CW TV shows are ending. (RIP Supergirl) The latest I’ve been hearing about is Squid Game which, apparently, is not about eating squid. That’s good because I’ve eaten squid and it’s not very tasty.
