The human species really tickles my tonsils. The City of Kansas City is full steam ahead to put a park on top of Interstate 670. As best I can tell this is the thought process: The interstate was built in the 60’s and it divided our neighborhoods and caused literal and figurative economic and social divisions. So now we are going to fix that by putting a concrete cap and park on top of the interstate. Go figure.
This new park will make us all closer together and stuff. I don’t make the rules, I’m just telling you what a few hundred million is going to get you. Trust the science.
Based on some of the government planning that must use World Cup calculators, this project will be self-sustainable and create jobs and harmony and such, per government reports. My cynical view would tell you that is not even remotely possible, but I don’t believe in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy either.
Sorry about dragging Santa into this. That was really a violent analogy to bring to the table. I’ll do better.
I don’t think I believed in Santa for very long. We had a Santa come to our house when I was a kid. He was the publisher of the newspaper in Plattsburg, Skip Tinnen. Problem was that Skip and Santa both performed a disappearing thumb magic trick, which kind of gave it away for me. Feel like he should have mixed that up.
I think I might have been born cynical.
Google says this is the proper execution of the disappearing thumb trick: “bend one thumb into your palm, align the other thumb against it at a 90-degree angle, cover the joint with your index finger, and slide your hands apart.”
If you start practicing now, you can be ready for the holidays.
The interstate park, also known as Roy Blunt Luminary Park was touted by city officials to create 8,557 “job years” over 30 years. Apparently, that equals 285 jobs a year. I am not sure how the conversion rate for “job years” to actual jobs is. These are all secret government financial formulas that we are not allowed to know.
These are some of the same people that brought you a temporary jail for the World Cup but then didn’t bring you a temporary jail for the World Cup. You can’t make this stuff up.
I predicted something like 85 wins for the Royals this year. I may need some remedial education going forward if I keep believing the off-season hype of this organization. This has been a failure from the get-go and to add insult to injury, the chances of baseball in 2027 do not look good. December 1st is the drop-dead date for a new collective bargaining agreement, and experts are predicting a strike, so enjoy this last month of bad baseball.
