Did anyone ever invent a solution to those paper milk cartons that would sometimes not open correctly? That was a very frustrating part of my childhood. If you didn’t get that thing exactly right, you’re spilling milk and you end up with a milk-stained shirt and large dose of embarrassment. I should probably seek out some counseling.
I turned 60 last week. Younger me had no idea I was going to live this long. I got a bunch of nice Facebook posts, texts and the like but it made me wonder if this is accurate accounting of life. I’ve collected a nice group of friends and acquaintances over my 60 years, but I also wonder how many people I’ve alienated or dislike me enough to post that emotion. I wonder if those numbers of likes and dislikes are similar. Should we open up Facebook to allow people to give you a thumbs down for living another year? Seems like that would be a better accounting of life than just counting your friends and positive acquaintances. These are the dilemmas that I deal with. Carry on.
It has also dawned on me at this age, what difference does it make if people like or dislike me. Not sure if it changes my daily existence much.
The Nathan Willett vs. Chris Stigall primary race to sit in Sam Graves chair has not disappointed. They’re now starting to publicly feud, both with generous amounts of outrage on what the other has said about the other.
The experts and polling tell me Stigall is still the notable favorite in the race and if that is the result, Willett will have won some wider name recognition and political respect for his moxie in this race and will likely be a leading candidate for other positions in the immediate future.
However, if they keep bickering like this, it’s going to be cringy to watch them make up to unify the party for the general election. Think Ted Cruz forgetting about Donald Trump trashing his wife and father type cringe.
Anyway, this race is a strong entertainment for those interested in such things.
For the sake of full disclosure, I paid $4.99 for shares of Willett to win the race a few weeks ago on Kalshi. Last week that “share” had risen to $7.88 and I took the profit. So, I am a bit beholden to Nathan in the amount of $2.89, so I might be unknowingly biased by this profit taking. Don’t hate on me for being a winner!
I also won $60 on Spain in the World Cup Final, so I’m basically on an off-season heater over here.
School districts across the state have taken a break from summer break to post “informational” pieces on Amendment 5, the proposal to eliminate individual income tax. The pieces are titled “information” but they’re basically veiled “vote no” pieces.
I’m no expert on this thing but when I read these posts, it makes me think this might mean we might have to suffer with public education that features less administrators per building or less “state of the art” weight rooms, but that’s just cynical me.
Anyway, schools are not happy about the elimination of individual income taxes, take that as you will.
