The Platte County Sheriff’s Office and Weston Police Department arrested Michael Alan Hull late Wednesday morning, a day after a manhunt for him prompted the cancellation of classes in the West Platte School District.
Hull was taken into custody without incident at about 11:50 a.m. after authorities received information that he was at a residence in Weston, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hull had been wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.
Authorities had searched for Hull on Tuesday after receiving reports of a suspicious person in the Weston area. The search eventually led law enforcement to a home, where an armed standoff took place before they determined he was not inside the residence.
Hull is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
6 p.m. Update Sept. 8:
A nearly 12-hour search for a wanted man in and around Weston prompted the West Platte School District to cancel classes Tuesday as law enforcement officers searched a vacant home and the Missouri River bottoms.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called around 4:20 a.m. to assist Weston police with a report of a suspicious person near Missouri 45 and Missouri H.
Authorities believed the person was Michael A. Hull, 37, of the Weston area, who was wanted on a felony warrant issued Sept. 5. According to the sheriff’s office, the warrant stemmed from an incident in which Hull allegedly fled a traffic stop, causing minor injuries to a Weston police officer.
Officers and deputies began searching the area after residents reported seeing someone running nearby. Authorities also received information that Hull had been captured on a security camera and might be armed.
Because of the search and its proximity to West Platte schools, the district initially announced a delayed start before later canceling classes for the day.
The search eventually focused on a vacant home on Cherry Street where Hull had previously lived after authorities received a report of an open door at the residence.
Law enforcement established a perimeter around the home and obtained a search warrant. The residence was searched but found to be unoccupied.
Authorities later received information that Hull had left Weston and might be hiding in the river bottoms south of the city.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, along with members of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office and St. Joseph Police Department SWAT team, conducted a ground search of the river bottoms.
The search was suspended around 4 p.m. after approximately 12 hours because of extreme heat and heavy brush in the area, according to the sheriff’s office. Additional law enforcement resources will remain in the area.
