EDITOR:

Platte County voters deserve answers about the recent petition drive that allowed four candidates—Dale Brouk, Kevin Robinson, Holly Cayer and Chris Kendall—to return to the November ballot as independents after failing to properly file required personal financial disclosures.

A review of the petitions has raised serious questions about how signatures were obtained. According to public records compiled by The Petition Files, 570 signatures were collected inside six senior-living facilities, including an assisted-living and memory-care facility serving residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Eighty-four elderly residents reportedly signed petitions for all four candidates.

Melissa Moran, Dale Brouk’s campaign manager, was also a major petition circulator. According to the petition records, a significant number of the signatures she collected came from residents of senior-living facilities.

The petition records also reveal troubling irregularities, including an unsigned circulator affidavit that was notarized, a signature dated after notarization, and an identical 15-name roster appearing twice for the same candidate.

Most concerning are allegations that some senior citizens may not have fully understood what they were being asked to sign. If true, that deserves a thorough investigation.

The Platte County Federated Republican Women have asked Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and to the Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd to investigate whether election laws were violated or voters were misled during this petition process.

This isn’t about party politics. It’s about election integrity and protecting our citizens, particularly our seniors. Every signature used to place a candidate on the ballot should be obtained honestly, legally and with the informed consent of the person signing.
Platte County voters deserve to know the truth.
