Mr. and Mrs. Jack L. Swindler of Platte City have announced the engagement of their daughter, Susan Lea, to Noel Allen Weaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Weaver of Kansas City. Susan is a 1980 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School and presently is employed by the National Federation of State High School Associations in Kansas City. Her fiancé is a 1977 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School. He is presently a senior at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity.


A fifth water well for Platte City was being completed last week by crews of the Layne Western Company and is expected to be put into regular operation in a month or less, just in time for hot weather water demands. The well was dug in the river bottoms in the northwest part of the city, near well number four and originally tested at 235 gallons per minute and continued testing 195 gallons per minute.

How the small businessman can survive and sometimes prosper in these days of big interest rates and inflation was explored at a seminar “Small Business in 1981” held at the Platte County Area Vo-Tech School in Platte City on Friday. Representatives of the sponsoring organizations were John Bradford, Jeff Elsea, Pauletta G. Baxter, Gene Cook and Gary Supalia.
