POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 6 A.M. TO 7 P.M.
Many issues and candidates will be on the ballot at the local municipal election Tuesday, April 7.
It will be an active election day, with local topics like mayoral races, city board and school board, a bond issue question from the Northland Regional Ambulance District, and even a Platte County homestead property tax question on the ballot, among others.
Polling sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 7. That evening, you can follow The Landmark’s social media offerings on Facebook (Platte County Landmark) and on X (@ivanfoley) for news and results as they come in.
Advance voting has opened and can be done at the Platte County Board of Elections office in Platte City.

Following is a quick summary/listing.
Platte County is asking voters: “Shall the County of Platte grant a homestead property tax credit pursuant to Section 137.1055 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri to eligible taxpayers residing in such county in an amount equal to the taxpayer’s eligible credit amount?” The measure caps annual tax increases for all primary homeowners at five percent or the rate of inflation, with an option to apply for the credit.
Dearborn has a contested race of alderman at large. It’s two-year term, vote for two. Candidates are Pat Downing, Daniel Hull, Steve Wilson, Cole Reed.
Houston Lake is asking voters: “Shall the City of Houston Lake impose a city sales tax of one percent?”
Village of Iatan is asking its voters: “Shall the Village of Iatan impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate on the storage, use or consumption of goods purchased by Missouri residents from out-of-state vendors that are delivered to Missouri, to provide revenue for the general purposes of the village?
City of Kansas City is asking its voters whether they want to continues the city’s one percent earnings tax for a period of five years.
City of Weatherby Lake is asking its voters to continue the previous temporary tax levy for a period of four years at the rate of 70 cents per $100 assessed valuation for general municipal purposes including fire suppression services.
City of Parkville has some contested races for two alderman positions. For alderman ward one, it is incumbent Tina Welch vs. Joe Leluga. For alderman in ward two, there are three candidates for the spot, including Mark Hill, Bob Bennett and Andrew Barchers.
In Platte City, the mayor’s race is between incumbent Steve Hoeger and challenger Amber Brune (see feature on this race in this edition of The Landmark).
At Platte Woods, the city is asking voters to authorize an increase in its adjusted operating tax levy to 90 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for the purpose of increasing the levy back to previously-voted level for use in general revenue expenditures.
Platte Woods is also asking voters if they’d like to impose a city sales use tax of two percent. This would add one percent to the current sales use tax rate.
At Riverside, there is a contested race for alderman in ward two between Andrew Potter and Casey R. Gowler.
City of Tracy has three candidates running for two open alderman positions. Candidates are Kristi Colstion-George, Jacob E. Petersen, and Jacob Maudlin.
There’s a contested race for mayor at Weatherby Lake, where incumbent Steve Clark is being challenged by Tyler Patterson.
Weatherby Lake also has a contested race for east ward alderman between Bryan Ballard and Donnie Hachman.
City of Weatherby Lake is asking voters to decide on an increase of 33.04 cents in the tax levy on $100 of assessed valuation.
Northland Regional Ambulance District (NRAD) is asking voters if the district can borrow money in the amount of $21 million for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, furnishing, equipping and operating new and existing facilities of the district, including without limitation:
*Constructing, furnishing, and equipping a new headquarters station and education center.
*Constructing, furnishing and equipping a new satellite station in Smithville, and acquiring land therefor, and
*Renovating and improving an existing station in Platte City;
and issue bonds for the repayment thereof.
NRAD’s question requires 57.14 percent approval for passage, since it is a bond issue. It’s important to remember that the ambulance district covers portions of two counties, so on election night voters will want to track results not only in Platte County but also in Clay County, then combine those NRAD vote totals to determine its passage.
North Platte School District has four candidates running for three open seats on the school board. Candidates are Jeff Hinton, Chad Richardson, Rebecca Hoffman and James Kubly.
North Platte School District is asking voters if the district, “without an estimated increase in the current debt service property tax levy, borrow $7 million for the purpose of providing funds to upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; to repair or replace roofs; to complete safety improvements; to construct, equip, and furnish a new concession stand; to replace the existing track and install turf on the football field; to the extent funds are available, complete other repairs and improvements to the existing facilities of the district, and issue general obligation bonds for the payment.”
If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the school district is estimated to remain unchanged at .9283 per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property.
At the Park Hill School District, there are four candidates for three open seats on the school board. Candidates are Alexia Norris, Deanna Munoz, Janice Bolin, and Brandon Kleinmeyer.
Platte City Special Road District has a contested race for a seat on the road district board of directors. Candidates are incumbent Perry Brown and challenger Bret Gabert.
Weston Special Road District has a contested race for a seat on the board of directors. Kimber Morton and Jeff Comer are the candidates.
Public Water Supply District No. 2 of Platte County is asking its voters: “Shall Public Water Supply District No. 2 issue its waterworks revenue bonds in the amount of $8 million for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, extending, improving, and equipping its waterworks system, including but not limited to, the acquisition of land, the principal of and interest on said revenue bonds to be payable solely from the revenues derived by the district from the operation of its waterworks system?”
