It’s official: the 147 acre tract soon to be the site of a new development is now within the city limits of Platte City. Platte City’s Board of Aldermen took the final step of annexing the property at a meeting Tuesday night. Two weeks earlier, the board had given preliminary approval to the action. A mandatory 14-day waiting period passed with no opposition filed by landowners within the city, and on Tuesday night the board took the final step by passing an ordinance of annexation.

Eric M. Pike, 17, of Edgerton, was killed Sunday in a one-vehicle crash at Buena Vista and B Highway near Edgerton. At about 6:30 that morning, the Platte County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by Edgerton Fire Chief Raymond Crowder, who had discovered Pike’s vehicle in a ravine off the roadway. Pike was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson-Platte Medical Examiner, reports Major Greg Crader of the sheriff’s department. Crader said investigators don’t know what caused Pike to leave the roadway.
