An attempt to mediate counterclaims made by a former Platte County employee is scheduled for early March. The mediation involves a civil lawsuit initially filed by the county against Kendra Montgomery, a former payroll clerk in the county’s human resources department. The county has since dropped its claims against Montgomery but Montgomery’s counterclaims are still being pursued by the former employee, who was fired by the county late in 2009 after being accused of falsifying time sheets. “They (the county) sullied her name by trying to prosecute her and it didn’t work. They sullied her name and fought her on unemployment and that didn’t work. And then they dropped the civil suit,” said Mark Jess, attorney for Montgomery.
Tuesday evening’s Platte City Board of Aldermen meeting was the scene of several recognitions for awards presented to five officers with the Platte City Police Department. Chief Carl Mitchell made the recommendations for Lt. Al Devalkenaere, Sgt. Robert Newman, Sgt. William Babbitt, Officer Paul Merrick and Officer Brian Scobee to receive citations for service to the city.
Col. Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said he would like to thank the public for its assistance during the recent heavy snowfall. The patrol urged the public to limit travel during the hazardous winter storm.
