EDITOR:

It’s time for Senators Hawley and Schmitt to address the horrors we’re seeing on the 6 o’clock news every night. Trump is outrageous and you guys know it. His foreign interactions are incoherent, flipflopping, menacing, hypocritical and without fact or rationale.

We were the country the rest of the world trusted; now we look like pirates. He’s dragging our military around the globe to bully other nations, then backs off. Same with tariffs. He uses tariffs to threaten other nations into submission; to the point they’re sick of it and our allies are setting up trade partnerships with Brazil and China instead. China! He waffles between Putin and Ukraine; from time to time delaying or denying funds and military support to Ukraine. Is this American foreign policy?

He calls names and ridicules like a petulant child. World leaders have learned flattery will appease him. He fires government workers and files birdbrain lawsuits against universities, the media, his opponents. He withholds federal funding of food for poor families, critical medical research, world immunizations, infrastructure in progress, and child care programs. Is this an American president?

Meanwhile ICE is out of control in our own country. And you know this too, Senators. It’s a rogue militia, a paramilitary of hate gone mad. If you think these home invasions, kidnappings, murders and assaults are okay in Minnesota, will this be okay in your state of Missouri? Will you defend us in Missouri when ICE brings their brutality here?

Senators: This is your legacy.

Voters: Someone said, “If you’re wondering what you would have done during the Civil War or the Holocaust, you’re doing it now.” We have a voice. Let’s use it. This is our legacy.
