EDITOR:

At a time when regular people are struggling to make ends meet, the Republicans in charge of Platte County’s government decided to give themselves a 30% pay increase.

Officeholder pay hikes are hard to understand

This comes after a dramatic increase in property taxes and the county commission’s rejection of a children’s mental health fund. Clearly, the Republican priority in Platte County is not to help the people.

The dysfunction of the Platte County government is quite clear. Commissioners don’t hold regular office hours; the clerk closes before Platte County citizens are off work; and there is constant infighting on who to blame for property taxes instead of fixing them.

Platte County deserves better.
