Redistricting will have unintended consequences

I have heard references to unusual changes to property assessments granted by the Platte County Board of Equalization (BOE) in the past. Thanks to David Cox, Platte County Assessor, for recently spelling out what had occurred.

Get appointed to the Platte County BOE and get three of your commercial properties assessments reduced by an average of 67%. The previous assessments may have been high, but two thirds high? Nice move, Tom Hutsler.

It appears that the current BOE has given some commercial properties a value of $0. How could this be possible?

And who can we thank for appointing the members of this remarkable board? None other than our noteworthy Platte County Commissioners.

But we shouldn’t worry, Commissioner Scott Fricker (56%) is going to run for his current office again.
