Ron Elton, 58, of Platte City was killed Sunday when his biplane crashed at the Ottawa Municipal Airport about three miles south of Ottawa, Kan. Elton was practicing maneuvers about 10 a..m when the plane went into a spin and crashed upside down near a runway. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident and no cause has yet been released. Elton was practicing aerobatics with other members of the International Aerobatics Club for an international contest to be held this weekend in Joplin. He was flying a homemade Morrow Starduster.

As the urban encroaches on the local area, many Platte County farmers will be facing a new set of pest problems as they must learn to deal with increased land prices as well as economic and environmental concerns brought on by a higher population density. The biggest factor as the metro area spreads will be the development of residential and industrial sites. This will drive up land prices, making them above farm values, according to Don Boyer of the Consolidated Farm Service Agency.
