Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Todd P. Graves filed murder charges last Wednesday against a Riverside man who allegedly shot and killed a woman on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the El Chaparal apartment complex located in Riverside. Graves contends that Harlos (Hugh) R. Cook, 32, shot Jennifer A. Henry, 26, with a .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Henry was shot once in the back of the head and several more times in the head after she fell to the ground. The shooting took place in the apartment complex courtyard.

Whether reluctant and nervous or excited and eager, it is that time again that all parents dream of: “School’s now in session.” Enrollment has remained constant at North Platte R-1 Schools and increased at Platte County R-3. Enrollment at West Platte R-2 is undetermined due to a later opening date. Platte County is anticipating an increase of approximately five percent from last year’s enrollment, according to Superintendent Don Siegrist.

A surprised Nina K. Vandeweerdhof, age 39, was arrested Saturday by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department and was charged with promoting prostitution. Operating out of her home off Eastside Drive near Weatherby Lake and Parkville, Vandeweerdhof allegedly would arrange rendezvous between prostitutes and customers soliciting sex, authorities say.
