About 40 people were present when bidding started Monday at 10 a.m. on the steps of the Platte County Courthouse, Platte City. Some were there to bid on 79 properties being offered for sale because of delinquent taxes and some just came over to see how the sale was going. County officials report this was one of the largest sales they ever conducted, partly because of a new state law which makes property eligible for sale after only three years of delinquency. Bill Johnson, county collector, served as auctioneer for the three hour sale.

Gene Wheeler, the new executive director of the new Platte County Industrial Development Commission, shows a map of Platte County, which he says will grow partly because of geography–in the direct path of growth, with KCI Airport, interstate highways, business and industry. Wheeler has opened offices in the Air World Center near KCI and will be contacting existing businesses and industrial organizations throughout Platte County to serve as a coordinator and a “catalyst” in attracting new industry and expanding existing industry.
